This one is for the bibliophiles (no illustrations), I am trying to identify the publisher and date. A previous owner has penciled in c 1900 on the ffep. Other than that there is nothing to indicate date, publisher or printer. It is a lovely little book nicely printed on good quality paper, bound in quarter green leather on marbled boards. Limited edition of 75 copies,11 x 16 c.m. 254 pp, with 2 page catalogue of other titles. The books listed are all very small print runs, and the heading Bibliotheque pour les curieux, does not offer any hits.

The only clue appears to be the printer or publishers device on the Title Page ÉTERNITÉ, under which is a small image of a winged helmet.

Yet another departure for me, as this is an odd volume, worthy of recording here because of the rarity of the illustrations. This volume is number 3 of a 4 volume set dated 1797, but actually printed in 1865. Bound in quarter  red leather on mottled boards, 354 pages (9.5 x 14.5 cm), with a frontispiece and 10 full page illustrations by Acier. Any other information on this edition would be most welcome.

Rather a good find this one and quite a surprise, though far from being an expert on flagellation novels, as evidenced by this blog a significant number of them have passed through my hands and been recorded on this site. I cannot ever remember seeing any depiction of pubic hair in any of these books and most definitely not a depiction of a vagina. This little volume has both. These images are of course commonplace in clandestine erotica, but not so in flagellation novels which were not illegal or subject to prosecution when originally published, although large  numbers were prosecuted in the 1950’s for unknown reasons.

I have difficulty finding other complete copies to reference, Bibliocuriosa (link at the base of this listing ) reference the illustrator of this edition as Leon Roze, but as they do not appear to have the illustrations they cannot have seen that they are clearly signed G.Topfer. I have previously had to apologise for difficulty in scanning images in rebound books and must do so again for this title, it is simply not possible to get the image flat to the scanner in a tightly bound book, but I have done my best.

That very rare ocurence on this site, a book without illustrations!, this one is here because I really like it, and I have long been a fan of the publications of Charles Carrington and especially the clandestine titles. Despite the lack of illustrations, (it was never issued as an illustrated edition), it is exceedingly rare and of interest to the serious erotic bibliophile.

Another rare flagellation title, I am not sure whether this title was reissued by Editions Dominique Leroy in the 1970’s, as were many of the other Carlo illustrated titles, but in any case it is worth noting that the illustrations in the original editions are on papier couche, or glossy paper, as a result they are much more vibrant than the reprints where the illustrations were on ordinairy cheap paper stock. This is the original edition and I hope you like the images.

Another labour of love for me, rescued this one before it disappeared, it is in a very fragile state, and will not survive another scanning session, however it is complete and the illustrations are all present, this being the first in  a small number of illustrated titles I will be posting in the next few weeks.
