Book Description: Small 8vo (18,8×12) paperback, 158pp, 1ff, printed in black yellow cover… Clandestine pornographic novel, published in the mid-50s by Eric Losfeld. Books for Trade: Losfeld and other clandestine erotic titles C 1950’s

My apologies to anyone who has already viewed these titles, but published originally as a page, I found it difficult to locate on my own site, so now back up as a blog, and hopefully more visible, to be followed by further clandestine erotica (French)  later today. As always all titles are available to trade against my Olympia Press wants, or other rare and interesting, erotica that might enhance my listings.

 Les Étapes de l’amour

S.Palu

Berlin [Paris]

(1958)

Palu, S. [Isidore Isou and the Lettriste Group]. Les Étapes de l’amour. Berlin [Paris]: [1958]. First edition. 8vo, 208 pp. + [40] plates. Printed wraps.

An erotic work written under pseudonym by Isidore Isou and the Lettristes. According to Dutel, Isou didn’t have time to do the drawings for the work, so he gave the scenarios to other members of the Lettriste Group, who executed the rough, full page pornographic drawings – one of the rarest early documents of it’s kind from the Lettriste group. The place of publication, here stated as Berlin, was actually Paris – a subterfuge to avoid prosecution. The work was banned on September 21, 1960. Dutel 1514.

My thanks to Patrick Kearney for his kind permission to use his bibliographical details, in this and my other listings

Les

Imprudences

de

Monique

1950’s?

In original beige coloured card covers with title in red on cover, This is an entirely clandestine imprint, illustrated in this copy with 5 full page illustrations of an explicit nature in black. All details are a complete mystery to me, the only copies I can locate do not have the illustrations this one has 5, they are very stylized and look to be 50’s or 60s , they appear to be by the same artist who illustrated ” Le Noir sied aux blondes”, which isn’t much help as I don’t know who published that either. 5 illustrations seems like an odd number (I know it is , but you know what I mean) but I can not detect any interference with the structure of the book. And 5 is certainly better than none which appears to be the alternative.

Notes: Sexus was first published in August 1949 by Maurice Girodias for his company Les Editions du Chêne, under the revived Obelisk Press imprint that had been originally started by his father, Jack Kahane, in the early 1930’s. In December 1950, the French Minister of the Interior prohibited the book from being printed or sold in France in any language. The present edition would seem to comprise almost entirely of a re-issue of the unused sheets of a reprint published before the December ban by Les Editions du Chêne/Obelisk Press in July 1950, and printed for them on India Paper by S.O.P.A.C., 26 rue Clavel, Paris. According to the information on p. [4], the Olympia Press edition here under notice is a new printing by Imprimerie Moderne du Lion, Paris dated June 1957.However, it seems likely that Impr. Moderne du Lion’s contribution was confined to new preliminaries and wrappers.
