Books for Trade: Jean Martinet, Venez ici, qu’on vous fouette ! : Paris Éditions Prima (1938?)

Previously only listed only in brief, but here for your enjoyment with all the illustrations, superbly executed, by Herric:- (Chéri Hérouard)

This title is available for trade my Paris Olympia Press wants.

NOTE: The decorations at the head and tail , and between images are not from this book, everything else is.

Chéri Hérouard (1881-1961) was a French artist and illustrator of numerous erotica and spanking novels. He used the pseudonym Herric when he illustrated spanking novels for various French publishing houses, such as Jean Fort’s Collection des Orties Blanches. And as evidenced by these titles also, Editions Prima.

Yet another accidental off shoot of my collecting activity, I found one of these titles and then set out to locate others, they are rather beautiful things and despite the subject matter, which even some erotic  bibliophiles disapprove of, most were not prosecuted at time of publication and only really became the subject of censorship when reprinted , mainly in the 1950’s

Fouetteurs et Fouettes

Books for Trade: Anonymous, Amish Love, Florence Italy: Michael Angelino Press, n.d.[circa 1940’s] illustrated by Mahlon Blaine

A wonderful example of clandestine Americana, a very strange item, large paperback format, the wrappers and pages have an almost rag like feel, and the production is,   I think deliberately rustic, in line with the theme of the title.

I Cannot find another copy anywhere at the moment, and the only bibliographical information, comes from Roland Trenary’s “Mahlon Blaine One-Eyed Visionary”, Grounded Outlet Kingston 2014.

I would dearly like to find out more about the history of this title, however it is available for trade against my Paris Olympia press wants.

Adventures in a Puritan Cult

Artwork on front and spine by Mahlon Blaine in his woodcut style and the five full page illustrations are half tone reproductions of his paintings.

Contents: 2 blank endpapers, half title “Adventures in a Puritan Cult”, verso blank, frontispiece, title page, verso blank, pages 7-264 text, blank end paper.

Books for Trade: STYKA, J., [pseud.} – Cruelles Frénésies. Paris: Les Editions du Crépuscule (Losfeld) [1958] Illustrated by WIGHEAD

IMG_1095 (2)

Another of my clandestine titles from the 1950’s, and very clearly copyrighted in 1958, a copy of the title originally published in 1938, and although 5 plates is correct for this edition, the original in fact had 6 monochrome plates and a colour plate on plain paper, curiously there are copies of the original for sale, but I cannot locate a copy of this edition elsewhere, so rare in its own right with the added Losfeld factor.

This title is available for trade against my Paris Olympia Press wants.

Please note: The printers decorations at the top and bottom of the page and dividing the images are not from this book.

In original covers printed in red and green, 299 pages plus Table, with 32 illustrations by Gaston Smit, this edition differs somewhat by also having the superb, signed engraved frontispiece by Louis Malteste. The publishing history is somewhat confusing, but I think this edition though undated may be around 1930, though possibly earlier, and I believe it constitutes a first thus.
