Books for Trade:Memoirs of Fanny Hill, by John Cleland, A Genuine Reprint of the Rare Edition of 1749, Paris and Benares, The Kamashastra Society 1907

Well yet another clandestine edition of Fanny Hill, and although I can find references to Kamashastra editions I cannot find an exact match for this one, it is stated a limited edition of 250 copies, I have found editions with and without plates, but this one has a frontispiece and 11 explicit plates, after Paul Avril, and all but one are hand coloured, or at least partially coloured, I must say the plates are a bit odd and appear to have been coloured by someone who was possibly colour blind. Regardless a rare enough item and interesting in its oddity.

This title is available to trade against my Paris Olympia Press wants

  1. Dear Steve,

Long-time reader, first-time poster. I’m wondering how many pages are in your copy? I suspect this is the same edition I’ve seen at Cornell, which is 239 pages and 12 illustrations. There’s another very similar edition, though it’s distinguished by having 235 pages and many more illustrations. The majority of the Kamashastra Fanny Hills have 287 pages.

    Thanks,
    Nick
